Cappadocia, Turkey
Cappadocia (aka Kapadokya) is famed for its balloon flights, natural ‘chimney’ rocks, and caves carved into the mountains many of which have now been turned into hotels. Local wines and food are fantastic, and there are many outdoor activities you can try or just enjoy the scenery.
-
Uçhisar
Uçhisar is where the venue is located and is a small town with a castle, and where we’ll be staying at Museum Hotel towards the bottom of the hill. It gets fantastic views over Cappadocia, and has a more laid back vibe than Goreme.
-
Göreme
Göreme is a ten minute taxi ride from the venue and is where we’ll have the rehearsal dinner the night before. It’s a bigger, flatter, more bustling town with a more backpacker vibe than Uchisar, with even more hotels ranging from very cheap to more luxurious. It also acts as the hub for all local activities so is where you can hire ATVs, book hiking tours, etc.
The two towns are only 3km away from each other. You can stay in either - please see our hotel recommendations.
Things to do in the local area
There are some great details of things to do below, but in summary:
Ballooning. All start very early in the morning. We’ll be going on the 23rd if you’d like to come with us (weather permitting; but highly likely in August. We’ll send out an email about it nearer the time so keep an eye on your inbox)
Hiking around the beautiful hills - guided or just by yourself
Visit one of the several open air museums such as Göreme Open-Air Museum - an area of chimney rocks with 2nd century AD churches carved into them in stunning scenery

If you don’t want to go ballooning, you can still get up at 6am and watch all the balloons
