Frequently Asked Questions
The Area
What will the weather be like?
Temperatures in August in the day tend to get to around 32c/88f. However at night it will get much cooler.
Also, because it’s on a hill, it can get quite windy which means sitting in the shade even in the day can get chilly. So it’s best to take something to put over yourself when you’re out and about.
We’ll have heaters and shawls at the venue on the day if people want to continue to sit outside later on. It’s very unlikely it will rain (we have a backup plan for the day even if it does).
How much will the trip cost?
At this stage, we don’t really know how much flights may be because they are likely to go up and down over the next year. By about March/April the flight prices are likely to be more realistic.
All food and drink at the wedding are covered, along with the food at the rehearsal dinner the night before. Here are some others costs you may incur whilst you’re there.
Accommodation: €/$ 20-600 a night
Taxi from airport: €/$ 30-50
Visa (US specifically, but good for all to check closer to the date): €/$ 30 per person
Main course in a restaurant: €/$ 12
Bottle of wine in a restaurant: €/$ 20
Local beer: €/$ 3
10 min taxi ride: €/$ 5
Balloon flight: €/$ 200 per person
Museum entry: €/$ 8 per person
Is Turkey safe?
Categorically yes. More info here.
Do locals speak good English?
In bars, restaurants and hotels the staff speak good English. Taxis a bit less so, but it’s easy to get the hotel or restaurant to call you a taxi for you and they’ll tell the taxi where to go. We can also supply phone numbers for drivers that definitely do speak good English if you’d like.
Do I need to get cash?
Lira is the official currency and is currently subject to high inflation, but everywhere we went including bars and taxis all accept euros/USD which is more resistant to unpredictability. You’ll have no problem just having euros/USD in cash (though you’ll probably get your change in lira). So bring euros/USD if you have them, or get lira from any of the many ATMs.
We’ve also not had any problems using our cards/Apple Pay in bars and restaurants, though taxis only accept cash.
Should I get travel insurance?
It’s a very good idea, yes. You should also check it covers any activity you want such as ATVs or ballooning.
Is there a risk of earthquakes?
No. The fault line is hundreds of miles away and the recent earthquake was barely felt in Cappadocia.
Do they have hot sauce and heavy metal music?
Yes Jeff, they do.
The Event
Is it an open bar?
Hell yeah it is. Have at it.
Is there a child sitting service?
Most likely yes - the wedding planner is looking into it. However, Museum Hotel has a no under 12s policy to stay at the main hotel.
What about gifts/present list?
Please do not get us gifts. We don’t have space in the luggage to take them home. The only present we need is your presence (Lexy’s joke).
When do I need to RSVP by?
The venue requests we confirm numbers four months before the day (24th of April). We can make slight adjustments after that date, but that will be reserved for special cases. Please RSVP using the button in the site’s header.
Will there be Americans coming?
We recommend bringing earplugs and pretending they’re Canadian.
Can we take photos?
During the ceremony, please do not take photos (though you’ll be able to at the end). The rest of the time, feel free.
How does a robot mate with a crustacean?
The process of robo-insemination is far too complex for the human mind.
What if I have special dietary requirements?
The hotel can accommodate anything you need, please just let us know as part of your RSVP. They can also supply kids meals of meatballs and fries and ice cream (recommended for under 7s).
So there are a lot of stairs?
The hotels in Uçhisar tend to have stairs because of the hill and most of them are built into ancient caves. The venue has some to get up to the terrace, and a few to get into the mansion and the toilets but not too many. The shuttle service however will help you avoid most of the cobbles.
Will there be Brits coming?
Yes, please try not to stare at their teeth.
I have more questions…
Feel free to ask us, but also the wedding planner Nimet is a spectacular human being who works for the hotel, who is also able to answer questions faster and better than we can about anything to do with the local area.
